Last weekend, I experienced how different it is to live in a city and to visit it as a tourist. With my family, I spent the weekend in Delft, where I lived 7 years when I studied at the Technical University. Of course, I knew the city was beautiful, but as a student I didn’t pay attention to it, I think. Or I have forgotten, because it must have been 20 years since my last visit to Delft. I had the opportunity to make two sketches: the one above shows the entrance of the building of the Hoogheemraadschap (the waterworks council that keeps the feet of the inhabitants dry), the one below shows the view from our hotel room. The cow statue was meant to keep hotel guests from climbing on the balcony, which was a not so solid remnant of an old fire escape. It won’t take another 20 years before I go back to Delft.
