This is a map number 475 in Frank Jacobs’ blog ‘Strange Maps‘. I love maps and I love even more maps that make you think… like this one. It shows the world as it would look like if the earth stopped spinning. Because the earth spins, the waters and of the oceans are driven towards the equator. So, if the earth stopped spinning: the water would redistribute equally over the surface of the earth. The spinning of the earth has also caused the landmasses to be ‘higher’ around the equator (remember the earth is not a perfect sphere). The result would be that we got two oceans north and south, separated by a large landmass along the equator.
I knew I live in the Low Countries, but I never knew so low…
Ik wist dat ik in de ‘Lage Landen’ woonde, maar zó laag…
