A Van Zanten comic for the economist magazine ESB. Tuesday next week, it is Prinsjesdag (Princes’ Day): the opening of the parliamentary year, starting with the Troonrede (the King’s address from the throne). Politicians are often criticized, which is a good thing, of course… but in general they do good work. I wouldn’t change jobs with them. My translation: 1) I think we live in one of the most pleasant countries on earth. Still, politicians keep making plans to improve our situation and to make it more durable. 2) With energy, they enter debates and political struggles. Hard-won compromises are greeted with mockery and disapproval. 3) Therefore, on the occasion of Prinsjesdag 2016, this citizen wants to read a message to our politicians. 4) Keep it up.
