A Van Zanten comic for the economist magazine ESB. It is about an actual dutch situation: from the ground below the province of Groningen, gas has been extracted for decades. This has caused earthquakes, damaging houses and other property. There has been discussion for years already about reducing gas extraction and compensations for damages – to no ones satisfaction. My translation: the comic shows four graphs illustrating the dilemmas. Graph one is titled ‘State budget’. Graph 2: title ‘Groningen economy’, vertical axis ‘house prices’. Graph 3 is titles ‘National feelings’, vertical axis ‘Putin’. Graph 4 is titled ‘Groningen feelings’, vertical axis ‘recognition of damages’, horizontal axis ‘distance to The Hague (seat of the dutch government)’.
Een strip voor het economisch tijdschrift ESB over gaswinning en de Groningse aardbevingen.
