Last Saturday, I went to Middelburg for the National Sketch Day of Urban Sketchers Netherlands. Being part of the organisation team, it is always difficult to predict if you have sketching time yourself, but everything went very smooth so I could make a few sketches. The one above was made early in the morning, before the official start of the day.
After all formalities were done, I went to the city center. I just sat down at almost the first bench I saw to draw these very old shops and houses.
A quick sketch before I went to a Winsor & Newton workshop about water colours. I learned a lot about pigments, washings, paper and brushes – I have to check the materials I have been using for years to see if I can make some adjustments.
It was a very, very nice day. I was very lucky to cooperate with Middelburg urban sketcher Christien van Driel for the organisation of this Sketch Day: she was decisive and flexible and had everything under control. Thank you Christien (and Tom)!
