This is the Binnenhof in The Hague around 1300, drawn for a history lesson. It still is the seat of our government. Of course a lot of buildings have been added to the court since 1300 (or taken down, like the wall) – and it is now surrounded by the city of The Hague. The big building still exists as the Ridderzaal (Knight’s Hall). The big pond too is still existing, as the Hofvijver (Court’s Pond).

A sketch I made of ‘The Drawing Lesson’, painted by Jan Steen in the 1660s. I drew it from the cover of the book ‘Artists’ Techniques and Materials’ by Antonella Fuga. A really nice book for everyone who wants to know the difference between secco and fresco, mezzotint and aquatint and a lot more.
Last week, a kick-off meeting of the project Water ABC was held. The Water ABC project aims to reduce the pollution of surface water by chemicals used in agriculture. On the picture you see some participants signing my drawing- as a sign of commitment.
A new comic for the economist magazine ESB. 1) Man with glasses: I learn to handle all the financial risks in my life. 2) Man: Risks with my savings, my investments, my mortgage, my insurances: I am in full command. 3) VZ: Then maybe you could help me on a problem that has given me some sleepless nights… 4) VZ: What’s the risk of putting all my money on the Netherlands in the coming European Championships?
Een strip voor het economenblad ESB.
