Mijn blog
A Van Zanten comic for the economist magazine ESB. At the time I made it, we were still hoping for an Elfstedentocht – a huge skating event. Because of the dutch context and word joke in the comic, I won’t translate…
Cartoon about the website where people can complain about Poles, created by the dutch party PVV. Translation: ‘Green and left-wing, but still, Bert Voetelink from Franeker wants to report something about the Poles’ Man: ‘They melt.’ I hope the word joke works in english.
I have been working on my website… I made many changes to both the ‘illustration’ and the ‘comics & cartoon’ sections. One of the things I like best: the comics about Milo and Mila can now be read on the site… in dutch, that is…

This weekend I read ‘Chroniques de Jérusalem’ by the canadian comics artist Guy Delisle. Delisle spent a year in Jerusalem with his family (his wife works for Médecins sans Frontières), and this book is a report on his life there. Just as his earlier books, it sheds an amazing light on the daily life in an unknown country (yes: unknown, regardless of how much we may have read and heard in the news). The book left me pessimistic about peace in the Middle East – fundamentalists of all sorts have made making each others life horrible a way of life… A very deserving winner of the ‘Album of the year’ in Angoulême, two weeks ago. An english translation will available at the end of April: ‘Jerusalem – Chronicles from the holy city’.
