Elke week maken mijn collega Joshua en ik tekeningen voor de kinderen in het Prinses Máxima Centrum voor kinderoncologie, namens de Stichting Tekenen voor Kinderen. Meestal vragen de kinderen om vrij eenvoudige tekeningen – hun knuffel, hun lievelingsdier, een prinses, een raket – soms om wat ingewikkeldere – Lamborghini Huracan 5.2 V10 Performante, een Transformer…. En heel soms wordt er iets onmogelijks gevraagd. Zo wilde M een monster dat haar buikpijn weg kon jagen. Buikpijn wegjagen lukte niet, maar toen ze de tekening zag, was M haar buikpijn in elk geval wel even vergeten.
Every week, my colleague Joshua and I create drawings for the children at the Princess Máxima Center for children’s oncology, on behalf of the Stichting Tekenen voor Kinderen (Drawing for Children Foundation). Usually, the children ask for fairly simple drawings—their stuffed animal, their favorite pet, a princess, a rocket – sometimes for something a bit more complex – a Lamborghini Huracan 5.2 V10 Performante, a Transformer…. And very occasionally, they ask for something impossible. For instance, M wanted a monster that could chase away her stomach ache. Chasing away the stomach ache didn’t work, but when she saw the drawing, M at least forgot about her stomach ache for a moment.
Ook L stelde mij voor een bijna onmogelijke opdracht: hij wilde zijn hele kamer erop. Een uitdagend klusje, gelukkig iets minder onmogelijk dan het in eerste instantie leek.

L also presented me with an almost impossible assignment: he wanted his entire room on the drawing. A challenging task, fortunately a little less impossible than it initially seemed.
