Jumbo Bosmans in Cuijk viert de zomer met deze big shopper, waar ik de tekening voor heb gemaakt. De mensen in Cuijk zullen een aantal Cuijkse gebouwen, standbeelden en Cuijkse zomeractiviteiten herkennen.

Jumbo Bosmans in Cuijk celebrates summer with this big shopper, for which I made the drawing. People in Cuijk will recognize a number of Cuijk buildings, statues and Cuijk summer activities.

De tekening loopt helemaal rond de tas: voorkant, zijkant, achterkant, zijkant en weer naar de voorkant. Niet heel makkelijk om dat naadloos voor elkaar te krijgen, maar hieronder zie je dat het goed gelukt is.

The drawing goes all the way around the shopper: front, side, back, side and back to the front. Not easy to achieve this seamlessly, but below you can see that it worked out well.

Samen met Graphical Solutions (Leeuwarden) maakte ik deze shopper voor Jumbo Olaf Hermus in Harlingen. Ik maakte de tekening van een winters Harlingen: de vuurtoren, de haven, de walvis-fontein, de Jumbo-vestiging met de jaarlijkse oliebollenkraam en natuurlijk… schaatsers. Hieronder zie je de volledige tekening, die doorloopt op de zijkant van de tas. Aardigheidje: de rechterkant van de tekening sluit weer naadloos aan op de linkerkant, zodat hij helemaal rondom de tas kan lopen.

Together with Graphical Solutions (Leeuwarden) I made this shopper for supermarket Jumbo Olaf Hermus in Harlingen. I made the drawing of a wintery Harlingen: the lighthouse, the harbour, the whale fountain, the Jumbo building with the traditional ‘oliebollen’ stall and of course… skaters. Below you can see the full drawing, which continues on the side panels of the bag. Nice to know: the right side of the drawing fits seamlessly to the left side, so it can run around the bag.

Voor de gemeente Amersfoort maakte ik deze zoekplaat over veiligheid. Op de plaat staan een aantal dingen die je beter niet kunt doen voor je eigen veiligheid (briefje ‘Zo thuis’ op de deur plakken, mobiele telefoon aan zo’n koord in je achterzak en zo), maar ook hoe je onveilige situaties in je buurt kunt signaleren. Veel camera’s rond een schuurtje of normaal rijtjeshuis – dat zou wel eens kunnen duiden op criminelen die wat te verbergen hebben. In mijn onschuld dacht ik dat afgeplakte ramen wijzen op klussende en schilderende bewoners, maar het blijkt dat er ook wel eens iets als een drugslab achter schuilgaat.

For the municipality of Amersfoort, I made this drawing about safety. The drawing shows a number of things that you should not do for your own safety (sticking a ‘Be right back’ note on the door, keeping your mobile phone on a cord in your back pocket and so on), but also how to see unsafe situations in your neighborhood. Many cameras around a shed or normal terraced house – that could mean criminals trying to hide something. In my innocence I thought that windows taped shut with newspapers mean that residents are doing a DIY or paint job, but it turns out that there an also be something like a drugs lab hidden behind it.

Voor Creathlon maakte ik de afgelopen twee jaar een aantal kijkplaten bij de verhalen van de methode ‘Krachtbronnen’. Nadat ik de laatste plaat had getekend, stuurde ik een ingelijste tekening van de twee hoofdfiguren uit de verhalen om de mensen van Creathlon te bedanken voor de fijne samenwerking. Vorige week verscheen dit lieve berichtje op Linkedin – ook om in te lijsten!

The last two years, I made some ‘busy plates’ to illustrate the stories of ‘Krachtbronnen’, an educational package of Creathlon. After I had finished the last plate, I sent a framed drawing of the two main characters of the stories to Creathlon, to thank them for the excellent cooperation. Last week, this message appeared on Linkedin – a message to be hung on the wall, too.

Below a translation of the message, made by Linkedin (I think ’talk plate’ isn’t a correct translation – I would suggest ‘conversation plate’ or ‘busy plate’):

A few weeks ago, Roger Klaassen handed in his last talk plate for the Krachtbronnen middle school themes.

Based on the great stories of Erik Renkema, Roger made the illustrations for twelve themes, always bringing together six stories on one plate per theme. Not really doable, but Roger got it done. And they are all equally beautiful!

That completes the project for him. Especially for us, he captured the most important characters from the stories, robot Beta and his girlfriend Anna, once again to frame.

Thank you for this beautiful memory, Roger! And for the nice cooperation of course. We are very happy with your contribution to the twelve themes.

Een nieuwe kijkplaat voor de methode Krachtbronnen van Creathlon. Het nieuwsgierige robotje Beta is op vakantie met het gezin van zijn vriendinnetje Anna. Vakantie is de tijd bij uitstek voor mensen om na te denken over hun toekomst, wat ze willen worden en wie ze zijn. Dat zijn voor Beta heel moeilijke vragen.

A new ‘busy plate’ for lesson pack ‘Krachtbronnen’, published by Creathlon. The curious robot Beta is on vacation with the family of his friend Anna. Vacations are the times when people, old and young, think about their future, what they want to become and who they are. For Beta, these are very difficult questions.
