In the 17th and 18th century, the Dutch trade on the Atlantic had this triangular shape, similar to the English navigation system. Manufactured products were shipped form Europe to Africa, slaves from Africa to the caribbean and America and colonial produce (like sugar, tobacco, coffee) was shipped to Europe. Nijverheidsproducten werden van Europa naar Afrika verscheept, slaven van Afrika naar de Caraïben en Amerika en koloniale waren (zoals tabak, koffie, suiker) kwamen naar Europa.
