A Van Zanten comic for the economic magazine ESB. Last week, the parliamentary year in the Netherlands was opened by the king on Prinsjesdag. The king reads his address from the throne, the government presents its budget in parliament, the Second Chamber (comparable to the House of Representatives) discusses it with the prime minister during the ‘General Considerations’ (Algemene Beschouwingen). Okay, now you have the information needed to understand my comic… 1) I always get nervous from Prinsjesdag and the General Considerations. 2) Little by little the economy is recovering and it seems that the government is getting control over its spendings. The usual reproach: the government has stopped governing. 3) I think my life is pretty okay and fine. 4) Have I stopped living?
