Yesterday I visited the Yves Chaland exposition at the Galerie Champaka in Brussels. Yves Chaland (1957 – 1990) is one of my favourite comic artists. His drawings are a synthesis of the classic Belgian comics of Hergé, Franquin, Jacobs, Tillieux and many others – his style is often called the ‘Atomic style’ (named after the famous Atomium). The drawings (original pages and large blow-ups of certain images) that are exposed at the Galerie Champaka show the incredible precision and control of Chaland.
