In deze laatste terugblik op de zomervakantie maken we een paar stedentrips. De Duomo van Milaan hadden jullie vast al herkend.
In this last episode of my summer holiday report, we make a few city trips. I am sure you have recognised the Duomo of Milan.
Dit is een hoekje van het Piazza della Loggia in Brescia. Het is misschien wel het meest Italiaanse tafereeltje dat ik tekende tijdens de vakantie. Brescia werd in onze toeristische gids omschreven als een industriestad, maar het centrum was wonderschoon.
This is a corner of the Piazza della Loggia in Brescia. It is perhaps the most Italian scene I drew during the holidays. Brescia was described in our tourist guide as an industrial city, but the center was wonderful.
Een heel snelle schets van het Palazzo della Loggia in Brescia. Eén van mijn favoriete tekeningen, niet omdat hij nu zo mooi is, maar omdat ik hem zo snel maakte – we wilden verder. Snelheid kan ook een kwaliteit zijn.
A very quick sketch of the Palazzo della Loggia in Brescia. One of my favorite drawings, not because it’s so beautiful, but because I made it so quickly – we wanted to move on. Speed can be a quality too.
En dit een andere schets waar ik blij mee ben, is deze van het Piazza Vecchia in Bergamo. Het plein was grotendeels in de schaduw en maakte een enigszins grijze indruk: fijn om dan gekleurd papier te gebruiken en het zonlicht heel simpel met wat streepjes geel aan te geven.
And another sketch I’m happy with is this one of Piazza Vecchia in Bergamo. The square was largely in the shade and made a somewhat gray impression: it was nice to use colored paper and simply indicate the sunlight with some dashes of yellow.
Ik maakte ook een tekening van de Cappella Colleoni in Bergamo, met heel veel details. Tijdens het maken van die tekening stond ik op een koele plek onder een zuilengalerij, terwijl een eindje verderop deze twee jongens fantastische muziek maakten. Tekenplankje, pennetje, muziek en koelte op een hete zomerdag – veel mooier kan het niet zijn. En die tekening van de Cappella – die kun je samen met alle tekeningen uit Italië zien op deze pagina (hij staat bijna onderaan).
I also made a drawing of the Cappella Colleoni in Bergamo, with lots of details. While making that drawing I was standing in a cool place under a colonnade, while, a little further on, these two guys were playing fantastic music. Drawing board, pen, music and coolness on a hot summer day – it can’t be much better. And that drawing of the Cappella – you can see it along with all the drawings from Italy on this page (it’s almost at the bottom).
